Transferring The License

Detailed instructions for transferring the EZPrompt license from one machine to another can be found in the manual, as well as in the Help utility.

In EZPrompt Help, click the Search tab, type transfer, and click Transfer License.

The license transfer process requires the same version of software on both machines and uses removable media (e.g. USB stick, CDR, floppy, etc.). On version 5.0 and older, the transfer process does require a floppy disk on both machines. If one of both of your computers lacks a floppy disk, contact ADS Technical Support (608-785-1415) for assistance.

Program Errors (related to Networked Printers)

Some users have reported problems loading documents in newer releases of EZPrompt. These problems result in an application 'crash'.

In most instances, the computer exhibiting this behavior also has Microsoft Office XP installed.

After exhaustive tests, it was determined the problem may be related to Printer Drivers installed on the host machine. In some instances, it was determined that the computer was configured to use a Network Printer (which was not connected) as the default printer. In other instances, it was determined that either no printer had been defined, or that the printer name used a long name (64 chars max). Installing local printers seems to cure the crashes.

We recommend the following:

  • Remove any Networked Printer installed on the machine.
  • Re-install any Networked Printers, using shorter names (with no spaces) to identify the printer
  • Remove and Re-install any local printers, using shorter names (with no spaces) to identify the printer
  • If no printer is available, install the Generic / Text Only printer, and make it the Default Printer for your computer.:
    1. Start your computer's Add Printer Wizard.
    2. Select Local Printer attached to this computer.
    3. If prompted for a port, use the FILE (Print to File).
    4. From the Manufacturer list, select Generic.
    5. From the Printers list, select Generic / Text Only.
    6. Click Yes when asked if you want to use this printer as the default printer.
    7. Do not share the printer, and do not print a test page.

We also recommend upgrading to the latest version of EZPrompt.

Program Errors Program Errors (related to Microsoft Office Document Image Writer)

A known problem occurs when the Microsoft Office Document Image Writer print driver is the default printer on your computer. This driver is used to save documents as .TIFF files, which is the file type typically associated with fax programs. The Microsoft Office Document Image Writer is incompatible with EZPrompt, and may cause program errors when attempting to load or create scripts.

To determine if this condition exists:

  1. Click the Start button, and select Printers and Faxes
  2. If the Microsoft Office Document Image Writer is installed, you should see it in the Printers and Faxes Control Panel.
  3. If the Microsoft Office Document Image Writer is the default printer, you should see a white checkmark in a small black circle next to the icon.

To designate another printer as the default printer:

  1. Click the Start button, and select Printers and Faxes
  2. Right-click on another printer in the Printers and Faxes Control Panel.
  3. Select the Set as Default Printer option from the menu.
  4. The printer you selected should now have a white checkmark in a small black circle next to its icon.

If no other printer has been installed on the computer, we recommend installing a local, generic printer (as described above)

We also recommend upgrading to the latest version of EZPrompt.

Program Errors (related to Long Printer Names)

There have been reports of some problems that deal with program crashes and printer names. If network printers are used with long names (64 chars max) the program may crash. Installing local printers (with short names) seems to cure the crashes.

If no other printer has been installed on the computer, we recommend installing a local, generic printer (as described above)

We also recommend upgrading to the latest version of EZPrompt.
