Dual Monitor Configuration

IMPORTANT: Dual (or multiple) Monitor capability is 100% dependent on the hardware being used. EZPrompt 6.0 automatically detects available hardware on program startup and shows ava

EZPrompt Version 6.0  can easily facilitate dual monitor display so the operator can view a separate screen display than the actual output to the prompter. This is particularly useful in situations where the prompter display must be reversed (in the EZPrompt Version 6.0  software) to facilitate monitors which cannot reverse the displayed image.

To configure Dual Displays, you must first have a computer that is capable dual displays. This is purely a hardware requirement. Though many laptop and desktop PC's produced to run under Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000 (or Windows 98SE) can run dual displays, it is not a given.

An easy way to tell if your computer can facilitate dual displays is to:

  • Close down an programs or applications
  • Right-click in an open area of your desktop
  • Select Properties
  • In the Display Properties dialog, select the Settings tab.
  • If your computer hardware can facilitate multiple displays, you will see two (or more) representations of monitor screens.
  • Click the boxes labeled 1 and 2 ... the resolution and color selection may change (you can set the resolution of each display independent of the other).

Ordinarily, the Primary (1) display is the VGA monitor (on desktop machines) or the LCD Screen (on laptops). Depending on your computer's hardware, you may have more video displays (3, 4, etc.  up to 8) available.

Typically, the secondary (2) display is a second VGA port (on desktop machines), or a TV-Out port (desktops or notebooks). In most instances, the TV-Out is a composite (NTSC-compatible) signal, but it can be S-Video, VGA, DVI, or other formats which may require particular cables, monitors, or other hardware. Check with the dealer or manufacturer of your computer or video adapters for detailed requirements.

  • Click Display 2 and choose “Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor”.
  • When you choose Apply and OK, the secondary display is enabled and displays a blank desktop. Though it has the same wallpaper and fonts, it is an additional desktop ... not a copy of the primary desktop.

When you start EZPrompt Version 6.0 , it will open in your primary display. You can move EZPrompt Version 6.0  to the secondary display by dragging the program's title bar into the secondary displays desktop area.

Important Note: On notebook computers, the secondary display is typically NOT the display adaptor that is controlled by the Fn + CRT/LCD combination (this combination varies depending on the notebook and chipset manufacturer). The Fn + CRT/LCD combination typically only switches  the Primary display to/from the external VGA port on the computer.
